Long-Term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategies: Approaches and Methodologies for Their Design
Synopsis
Long-term low greenhouse gas development strategies offer an opportunity for the G20 to set the leadership direction that will help steer the world toward a viable climate future. These strategies were a focus area of the G20 Climate Sustainability Working Group in 2018.
This paper was prepared for the Argentine G20 presidency by World Resources Institute (WRI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a contribution to the Climate Sustainability Working Group. The paper identifies issues that should be considered in the development of long-term strategies. It invites countries to learn from the experiences of countries that have already developed long-term strategies while building on and complementing existing domestic processes. While developing long-term strategies will be tailored to the unique circumstances of each country, the paper could be useful to all.
