WRI’s work in Africa is guided by a region-wide strategy led by a vice president and regional director based in Nairobi, Kenya. We maintain a regional hub office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and offices in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar.
Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
In West and Central Africa we foster vital landscapes in Cameroon, Republic of Congo, and DRC, where we have maintained an office since 2006.
WRI Africa has four staff in Madagascar, an island country in the Indian Ocean with some of the richest biodiversity in the world. They work as part of a consortium of the USAID-funded Hay Tao project, developing tools and knowledge to support decentralized, community-driven natural resource conservation.
The WRI Ethiopia office in Addis Ababa has two roles. It serves as the regional hub for WRI Africa and it actively engages with the government and other stakeholders to advance sustainable development within Ethiopia itself.
WRI Africa has registered to open an office in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and home to more than 100 major international companies and organizations.
Our vision for Africa is an inclusive transformation so Africa’s people and landscapes flourish. WRI Africa generates actionable knowledge across three strategic pillars: vital landscapes, thriving and resilient cities, and institutional and economic transformation.
