Embargoed Press Call for WRI’s Aqueduct 2019 Country Rankings and Data
WASHINGTON— WRI will release updated data and rankings for the world’s most water-stressed countries, and, for the first time ever, rankings of states and provinces within each country. The Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas, a tool designed to help companies, governments, and civil society identify and evaluate water risks, has a new hydrological model and gives users a more timely, close-up view of water threats and opportunities around the world.
WRI is hosting an embargoed press call on Wednesday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m. EDT/16:00 CEST where experts will preview the new rankings and data. Speakers on the call will include water experts from WRI, government, and business who will shed light on what the data tells us about water stress, including emerging trends and hotspots. They will also take questions from the media.
As “Day Zero” has become a reality in major cities from Cape Town to Chennai, it is clear the impacts of water stress are here and on course to worsen due to socio-economic pressure and climate change. Aqueduct’s new data will connect the dots between water risk and food security, financial stability, conflict and migration, and more.
