ADVISORY: Press Call Featuring Caribbean Ministers on International Climate Action, European Council Decision

The findings of the IPCC 1.5 C report and the UN Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services were unequivocal: the climate crisis a clear and present danger to us all and its consequences will grow exponentially if urgent action is not taken. On June 20-21, European leaders meeting at the EU Council can decide to strengthen the EU’s 2030 target under the Paris Agreement and agree to reach climate neutrality by 2050. And next year, all countries are expected to come forward with new climate plans under the Paris Agreement.

During this press call organized by World Resources Institute on Monday, June 17, ministers from three Caribbean countries – Grenada, Jamaica and St. Lucia – will showcase how their countries are leading by example with ambitious climate action. The ministers will also call on the European Union, other developed countries and emerging economies to come to the UN Climate Action Summit with a firm commitment to strengthen their climate targets to respond to the scale of the climate crisis.
