How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my company match my donation?

Use our online matching gifts search tool above to learn if your employer offers a matching gift program. Enter your company’s name into the search tool to learn about their matching gift policy, including the match ratio, minimum and maximum donation amounts, and any relevant deadlines.

If you don't see your employer when you search, contact your HR team to see if a matching gift program is available.

My employer wasn’t listed. Can I still have my donation matched?

Check with your company's HR or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team. Your company may still offer a matching gift program.

How do I request a matching gift?

Requesting a matching gift is generally a five-minute process initiated by you – the donor. Each company has its own procedure, but we’re here to assist if you need help.

Once you’ve confirmed your eligibility, follow your employer’s procedure to request a match. This might involve completing an online form or providing proof of your donation.

If you’ve used the Double the Donation search tool, Double the Donation often provides links to the necessary forms to make the process as smooth as possible. Double the Donation will send you a link to your company’s matching gift submission site, so you can submit your form completely online.

However, you can also submit it to your employer directly – either your employer’s HR or community giving department.

If your employer asks for additional information about World Resources Institute, please email [email protected] for support.

Can I request a match if I’ve already donated?

Yes! Many companies allow employees to request a matching gift for contributions made during the company’s fiscal or calendar year. Check with your HR or benefits department to see if your gift is eligible.

Are matching gifts tax deductible?

Individual donors and employers can only take deductions for contributions they make themselves. You will take the tax deduction for your personal contribution and your employer will take the deduction for the matching gift contribution.

Payroll Deduction Programs

Many companies allow employees to donate to charity directly from their paycheck through payroll deductions. Visit your company’s benefits page or reach out to your Human Resources department to learn if your company has a payroll giving program and how you can enroll.
