Donor-advised funds (DAF) are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle in the United States because they are one of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give to charity. A DAF is a giving account managed and administered by a sponsoring organization.

DAFs allow donors to give cash, stock and other assets, receive an immediate tax deduction and then recommend grants from the fund to WRI or other charity immediately or over time.

How it works

  • Establish your donor-advised fund by opening an DAF account at a sponsoring organization such as American Endowment Foundation, Fidelity Charitable, National Philanthropic Trust, or your local community foundation.
  • Make an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to your DAF account and take an immediate tax deduction.
  • Determine the investment allocation of the donated assets as any investment growth is tax-free.
  • Recommend grants from your DAF to World Resources Institute (WRI) whenever you wish to make a gift. WRI's tax identification number (EIN) is 52-1257057 and our address is 10 G St. NE Ste 800, Washington D.C, 20002.

DAFs can also be incorporated into estate plans by naming WRI as the beneficiary of the fund during your estate and legacy planning. Learn how to include WRI in your will or estate plans.
