What Will It Take to Keep People Moving in Tomorrow’s Cities? City and Business Leaders Discuss Opportunities for Sustainable Urban Mobility

City and business leaders will gather at the World Bank in Washington, DC for a global forum on the growing potential for sustainable urban mobility in the developing world. The 11th annual Transforming Transportation event is co-organized by the World Bank and EMBARQ, the sustainable urban transport program of the World Resources Institute, on Thursday and Friday January 16-17, 2014, from 9 am to 5 pm.

Long term mobility patterns and greenhouse gas emissions are determined by today’s choices. Developing countries, which still face a large infrastructure gap, have the opportunity to leap-frog car-dependent transport and adopt multimodal strategies that reduce pollution, energy consumption, traffic fatalities and congestion, while fostering economic development and improving well-being.

This year's Transforming Transportation conference will look at opportunities for business to help advance the sustainable transport agenda for cities, at a time when the international community is defining the next wave of global sustainable development goals. The forum will highlight technology solutions to design more inclusive and optimal transport systems, leadership and governance, climate finance, mid-size cities, emerging markets and traffic safety.
