KATOWICE, POLAND (December 5, 2018)– As negotiators and leaders gather in Poland for COP24, a new WRI report shows the world cannot meet its climate goals and hold warming below 2°C without making big changes to the global food system. Join WRI for a press conference in Katowice where the report’s findings will be announced for the first time.

How can we feed the world without destroying it? By 2050, there will be nearly 10 billion people on the planet. The synthesis report of World Resources Report: Creating a Sustainable Food Future shows there is no silver bullet: we need to produce a lot more crops, meat and milk on the same land; lower food waste and demand for beef and lamb; use innovative technologies to reduce emissions; stop deforestation and restore forests; and much more.

The report’s findings will be announced on Wednesday, December 5 at 11:30 am CET at COP24 in Katowice by report author Craig Hanson, Vice President for Food, Forests, Water and the Ocean, WRI, Tobias Baedeker, Agriculture Economist, World Bank, andNicole DeSantis, Programme Specialist & Policy Advisor for the New York Declaration on Forests, UN Development Programme.

World Resources Institute produced the report in partnership with the World Bank, UN Environment, UN Development Programme, and the French agricultural research agencies CIRAD and INRA.

The report is embargoed for Wednesday, December 5 at 6:01 CET / 00:01 am EST. Email WRI’s Ally Friedman ally.friedman@wri.org or Rhys Gerholdt at rgerholdt@wri.org to request an embargoed copy and RSVP for the press conference.
