Climate Finance Calculator

This Tool is part of Finance. Reach out to Andrea Hohman for more information.

The Climate Finance Calculator allows users to consider a variety of economic and emissions factors to indicate how responsibility for climate finance could be allocated across countries. The calculator will offer valuable insights for discussions such as those related to the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance, the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage and the Green Climate Fund.

For the best user experience, access the Climate Finance Calculator using a desktop computer.

As you explore the calculator, note that looking at any one metric on its own offers a skewed perspective. For example, one country’s emissions may be high, but their per capita emissions could be quite low. Or two countries’ per capita emissions could be similar, yet the size of their economies could be very different. Only after evaluating several scenarios will users understand the nuances that should inform conversations related to responsibility for climate finance.

Read this article for a thoughtful overview of how to analyze countries’ responsibilities to provide climate finance. For background on how the calculator was developed, read the technical note.
