Alex Lee-Emery is a Researcher for the Ocean Program based in London. He supports the delivery of the International Our Ocean Conference and Marine Finance Research.

Before joining WRI, Alex spent several years working for nonprofit and intergovernmental organisations. As an analyst with the United Nations ESCAP, he worked on a regional plastic pollution mitigation and circular economy project in Southeast Asia. He then worked as an Assistant Researcher at the Commonwealth Secretariat supporting international ministerial meetings and policy research.

Most recently Alex was Head of Programmes for the Environment and Livelihoods Team of the NGO SEED Madagascar. He was responsible for project management, resource mobilisation, and donor reporting for development programmes across the Anosy region. These included initiatives to strengthen community-led marine governance, participatory ecosystem monitoring, and small-scale fisheries research.

Alex holds a BSc in Oceanography from the University of Southampton and an MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford.
