RELEASE: His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, to Become the Royal Patron of World Resources Institute
WASHINGTON//LONDON (March 9, 2018) — The World Resources Institute is pleased and honored that His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, has become the Patron of the Institute.
Prince Charles is widely recognized as a global leader who has long advocated the need to protect the environment, foster healthy communities, and build sound economies around the world.
HRH's interests align closely with the mission of World Resources Institute. WRI is a global research organization that works with partners on urgent issues related to the environment, economy and human well-being. The Institute uses an evidence-based approach to advance a more sustainable future, with a focus on interlocking challenges related to food, forests, water, energy, cities, climate and the ocean.
WRI is very pleased to have the opportunity to build upon the important work of the Prince of Wales' International Sustainability Unit (ISU). Formed in 2007 to address critical global challenges, the ISU has helped build consensus on measures to reduce tropical deforestation, protect marine ecosystems, prevent the illegal wildlife trade, as well as to encourage integrated approaches to deal with food, water, and energy security, and address the linkages between climate change and health.
With the ISU ceasing operations, several ISU projects will be merged into WRI, with a focus on forest protection, landscape restoration and sustainable cities. An important priority for WRI will be continuing the work the ISU's Sustainable Blue Economy initiative, a collaborative partnership launched in October 2017 by HRH at the Our Ocean Conference in Malta.
