ADVISORY: Press Call on Expectations for Bangkok Climate Talks
Washington, DC (August 24, 2018)— Representatives from Climate Action Network (CAN), We Mean Business and World Resources Institute (WRI) will offer journalists a preview of the upcoming negotiating session taking place September 4th-9th at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
With the clock ticking toward COP24, negotiators are under pressure to produce a solid draft of the implementing guidelines or “rulebook” of the Paris Agreement that ministers can approve in time to meet the December deadline. WRI’s David Waskow will give an overview of where the negotiations stand and how the talks in Bangkok will set the stage for upcoming events like the Global Climate Action Summit and UNGA/Climate Week; WRI’s Yamide Dagnet will share insights from a new publication helping negotiators to identify the core elements that must be included in the guidelines to set the Paris Agreement in motion; and Wael Hmaidan from CAN and Jen Austin from the We Mean Business coalition will highlight the perspective of civil society and the private sector to support a strong and effective rulebook and accelerated global climate action.
