What are country platforms?
Country platforms provide a government-led framework for aligning policies, institutions, technical assistance and public and private finance behind nationally determined climate, nature and development priorities. When effectively designed, country platforms:
- Are led by national governments with strong political commitment
- Integrate climate, nature and development
- Put people at the heart of the process
- Integrate policy and investment planning
- Unlock and scale diverse sources of finance, working together as a system
- Coordinate across government, particularly between ministries of finance, planning and sector ministries
Country platforms offer a scaled-up approach to development and climate finance by aligning governments, development partners, financial institutions and the private sector around shared national priorities. But realizing their potential requires new tools, stronger coordination mechanisms and innovative ways of working. Limited grant and concessional funding must be strategically blended with other forms of finance, while technical support and partner resources need to be aligned to achieve impact.
Rather than applying a standard institutional model, country platforms should reflect national priorities, political realities and institutional arrangements, recognizing that genuine country ownership means no single design will work across all countries.

What are Examples of Country Platforms?
Examples include the Just Energy Transition Partnerships in South Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam and Senegal; Brazil and Colombia’s Climate and Ecological Transformation investment plans; Egypt’s Energy–Food–Water Nexus initiative; and Ethiopia’s Integrated Sustainable Financing Framework and platform.
