By early 2025, countries are due to unveil new national climate commitments (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Ambitious new commitments to cut emissions by 2035 are crucial to limiting global warming and reaching net-zero by mid-century, but to be effective these plans should go farther. Setting sectoral targets for 2035 as well will help guide domestic policymaking in ways that a top-line emission reduction targets on their own do not. Including sector-level targets can also catalyze investments and mobilize more concrete action on the ground.

During this webinar, leading experts will present the benefits of including setting sector-specific targets in countries’ next generation NDCs and layout specific examples for how to approach targets for key sectors like energy, transport, buildings, food, agriculture and land use. These sectors collectively emit about 90% of greenhouse gas emissions globally.

Speakers include:
  • Bruce Douglas, CEO, Global Renewables Alliance
  • René Zamora-Cristales, Senior Manager Restoration Policy & Forest Economist, WRI
  • Pandora Batra, Strategic Engagement Manager, Climate Program and Ross Center for Sustainable Cities
  • Taryn Fransen, Director of Science, Research, and Data for WRI Global Climate, Finance, Economics Program
