Unlocking Ambition for Transport: Leap Towards a Just and Equitable 1.5°C Future
WRI’s experts are closely following the UN climate talks. Watch our Resource Hub for new articles, research, webinars and more.
This session aims to explore ways to unlock ambition for transport targets that can achieve a 1.5 degree C future. Topics will include aligning sector and industry policies with just transition principles, including the launch of an action plan to ensure African seafarers are not left behind in the transition to zero-emission shipping. Establishing clearer, more ambitious pathways for “Avoid” and “Shift” methods of emissions reduction, including launching the Avoid and Shift Breakthrough of the MPGCA 2030 Breakthrough Agenda, which builds on the #FossilFreeTransport Call to Action launched at COP28 and aims to double the share of energy efficient and fossil-free forms of land transport for people and goods by 2030 by focusing on shifts to public transport, walking, cycling and rail freight, as well as electric vehicles and railways. And finally enhancing capacity to raise ambition for transport in the next rounds of NDCs, including showcasing various resources and guidelines developed by the sustainable transport community.
