Beyond Counting Trees: Fusing NextGen Technology and Traditional Knowledge to Monitor Biodiversity in the Amazon
The side event will feature a diverse panel of experts exploring the role of advanced monitoring technologies in conservation. Keynote speakers will provide an overview of monitoring paradigms and remote sensing's evolving role. Keynote speakers will discuss data's importance in implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework and 30x30 initiative, they will share personal experiences using remote sensing to combat illegal deforestation and strengthen land rights, and demonstrate the use of ground-based technologies in conservation planning.
The event will conclude with a discussion with a diverse group of panelists and audience Q&A, addressing critical data gaps, challenges in using monitoring tech, data actionability, working with multiple conservation technologies, and how the conservation tech community can meet local needs. This event aims to highlight the potential of integrating diverse monitoring technologies to support effective conservation and restoration actions in the Amazon.
