Business Opportunities for the Climate and Economy
Join Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister, Isabella Lövin, President Felipe Calderón, Lord Nicholas Stern, and Andrew Steer of WRI for a conversation with leading representatives of Swedish and US businesses to discuss the roles and opportunities for growth oriented businesses to help acheive a wide range of social and environmental goals, including the SDGs and the Paris Agreement, the factors behind the Swedish success story, and how close connections between the two countries can help spur even more opportunities.
The New Climate Economy has demonstrated, economic growth and reducing carbon pollution can go hand in hand. A number of private sector leaders are showing the way forward by pursuing actions themselves and working with policymakers to identify policies that benefit the climate, the economy, and the bottom line at the same time.
Sweden is a leading example of this, having internalized green growth principles in legislation and business practices. The Haga Initiative, for example, is a group of some of Sweden’s largest businesses that strives to reduce climate impact. In the United States, a number of companies are also demonstrating leadership, including as a source of cutting-edge, low-carbon innovation.
