As Chief of Party to the WRI’s Clean Air Catalyst, Steven provides strategic direction and management of the program currently implemented in Indore, Nairobi and Jakarta.

Steven is a program manager, researcher, process facilitator and systems design advisor working at the intersections of climate, cities, air quality and innovation.

For the last 11 years, he has worked closely with municipalities and businesses to support their efforts in transitioning faster and more systemically to a climate safe future, while being based in South Africa, Ghana and Kenya. Prior to joining WRI, Steven did this work at Dark Matter Labs, UN-Habitat, the Local Government Information Unit and ICLEI - Africa.

In South Africa, he helped mainstream climate response into economic development strategies in two municipalities. In the UK, Sweden and Uganda, he co-designed and facilitated net zero innovation processes with cities and their partners. Steven managed the Urban-Low Emissions Development Strategies (Urban-LEDS) project from 2012 - 2015 in South Africa, and from 2017-2021 globally.

Steven has a Masters in Gender Studies (Linkoping), a Professional Masters in Leadership for Sustainable Development (Middlesex) and a Bachelors in Geography (Cambridge).

Steven is also a father, trail runner, commuter cyclist and baker (in that order!)
