Stephen Mwirigi is a sustainable finance and resource mobilization specialist with over 15 years of experience supporting governments, non-profits, and international institutions in designing and financing sustainable development initiatives.

As Director of Development at WRI Africa, he leads strategies for philanthropic partnerships and sustainable finance to advance WRI’s growth and programmatic impact across the continent. Steve has spearheaded resource mobilization, innovative finance, and program development efforts that have mobilized millions of dollars from major bilateral, multilateral, and philanthropic sources. His expertise spans climate finance, blended and innovative finance, strategic partnership development, and resource mobilization, with a strong track record of shaping high-impact programs in climate, urban development, nature and land-use systems, energy, and inclusive development.

He holds a Master’s in Sustainable Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management and a Master’s in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi. He is also a certified expert in Climate Adaptation Finance, ESG & Impact Investing.
