Sophie Labaste
Research Analyst II, Forest Legality Initiative

Sophie Labaste is a Research Analyst in the Forest Legality Initiative team.
Prior to joining WRI, Sophie worked as a Project Manager for a consulting firm in the energy sector, conducting quantitative and geospatial data analyses. In 2018, Sophie conducted research on the Asia Pacific Region’s forest sector (Laos, Vietnam and Australia) as part of her graduate program, looking at the effectiveness and challenges of certification for small landowners.
Sophie worked with the Forest Legality Team in 2016-2017, supporting the early development stages of the Open Timber Portal. She also has previous professional experience in digital communications, advocacy, and conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
Sophie holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Melbourne and a BSc in Agricultural and Environmental Science from McGill University.
