Peter Ndunda is the Director of Restoration at World Resources Institute (WRI) Africa, where he leads WRI’s restoration strategy and portfolio across the continent. He works with governments, communities, restoration entrepreneurs, investors and partners to accelerate the transition from restoration ambition to implementation at scale.

Peter’s work focuses on advancing locally led restoration, sustainable and outcome-based finance, monitoring and evidence, and partnerships that can restore degraded landscapes while improving livelihoods and delivering benefits for people, climate and nature.

A major focus of his work is Restore Local, WRI Africa’s initiative to accelerate locally led restoration across Africa’s vital landscapes. Through Restore Local and WRI’s broader restoration portfolio, Peter works to strengthen restoration champions, mobilize finance, improve monitoring and verification, and build the systems and partnerships needed to scale successful approaches.

Before becoming Director of Restoration, Peter served as Senior Technical Advisor for Restoration at WRI Africa, providing technical and strategic leadership across WRI’s restoration portfolio in Africa. Across these roles, Peter’s work has centered on moving restoration from successful projects to impact at scale, connecting strong local implementation with sustainable finance, credible monitoring, technology and enabling government systems.
