Monique Zegarra
Grants and Finance Associate, WRI México Liaison
Monique Zegarra is the Grants and Finance Associate, WRI México Liaison for the Global Restoration Initiative providing administrative oversight and support program operations for an award from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building, and Nuclear Safety of Germany (BMU) in Mexico and other projects. Her primary responsibilities include grant and contract management, financial oversight, partner coordination, and communication for a five-year, 30-million-euro reforestation initiative in Mexico.
Before joining WRI, Monique worked for several international NGOs such as The Nature Conservancy, PATH, and others to support conservation, global health, organizational development, training, and program management initiatives. She has over 10+ years of experience coordinating projects with international organizations and partner NGOs in Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. She has worked extensively with consultants and resource matter experts to create and implement successful experiences, as well as managing all aspects of grants & sub-agreement management, accounts payable, and business development activities.
Monique holds a B.A. in Interpretation and Translation from Universidad Ricardo Palma in Perú and a Certificate in Management and Marketing from George Washington University. She is originally from Perú, has lived in Spain for many years, and has a daughter and a cat named “Missy”. She is fluent in English and Spanish. As a hobby, she likes to experiment in the kitchen, learning about other cultures, and salsa dancing.
