Martin Sommerschuh is Engagement Manager for Land & Carbon Lab. He supports stakeholder engagement, partnerships, and implementation in biodiversity, nature-based solutions, and related issue areas, connecting the dots between geospatial innovation and global action frameworks. Prior to this role, he co-led Land & Carbon Lab’s 2023 Summit as Event Program Manager.

Martin joins WRI from the United Nations Development Programme, where he was project manager and program specialist at the Equator Initiative, which advances Indigenous peoples’ and local community solutions to the biodiversity and climate crises. He steered the cross-sectoral partnership, helped scale up local nature-based solutions, and ran the signature Equator Prize. He co-led various strategic initiatives and supported efforts to improve Indigenous peoples’ access to climate finance.

Martin holds an MA in Political Science from the University of Munich. He lives in Los Angeles, California, with his partner. In his spare time, he can be found outdoors hiking or training for his next marathon.
