Lauren Zelin is Director of Media Relations and Strategy at WRI, where she works to advance the organization’s goal of protecting the earth while improving people’s lives. Lauren is a communications strategist and media relations professional with more than 15 years of experience communicating on climate change, energy, food, forests, water, cities, land rights, and business sustainability, in addition to two years as a journalist for the Washington Post.

Lauren manages strategic communications and media outreach for WRI, working closely with journalists around the world to bring WRI's research and analysis to policymakers, corporate leaders, civil society, and the public. She works to raise the profile of the Institute by designing outreach strategies, distilling key messages, engaging with media and partners, writing communications materials, conceiving and coordinating high profile launch events, and identifying opportunities for WRI's work to have greater impact. She has supported most of WRI's projects during her more than 8 years at the Institute, including Global Forest Watch, New Climate Economy, GHG Protocol, World Resources Report on Food, Aqueduct water risk tool, U.S. climate policy, sustainable cities and transport, Reefs at Risk, international climate policy, land rights, climate finance, ecosystem services, and more.

Lauren joined WRI from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, where she consulted on a range of communications and strategy initiatives. Prior to DOE, Lauren was Manager of Corporate Development and Communications for Clear Carbon, a boutique carbon consulting firm that was purchased by Deloitte. She began her career in public relations with Edelman in the Corporate Communications practice, helping establish Walmart's reputation around business sustainability.

Lauren holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She was born and raised in Bethesda, MD, loves to travel and cook, and currently lives in Washington, DC, with her husband Michael and three kids.
