Hector Chavez is a Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (PMEL) Manager in the Research, Data & Impact department. They provide guidance and technical assistance on indicator development, measurement, and quality assurance to strengthen evidence gathering across WRI’s projects. In this role, Hector aims to help projects translate data into meaningful stories while ensuring quality and ethical standards.

Before joining WRI, Hector held data science and PMEL roles at KIT (Royal Tropical Institute), IDH (The Sustainable Trade Initiative), and Fair Wear. Their experience spans human rights verification in supply chains, sustainable commodity production, deforestation, nature conservation, and living income research. Hector specializes in innovative approaches to data collection, analysis, and visualization for impact management.

Hector holds a PhD in Ecology from the University of Amsterdam and two master's degrees—one in Applied Ecology and another in Creative Writing from Lancaster University. In 2024, they co-authored a peer-reviewed study on COVID-19’s impact on routine immunization in Sierra Leone. Hector is also a 2024 alum of the Tin House Summer Workshop and the DISQUIET Literary Program.

Hector lives in Landsmeer, the Netherlands, with their partner and dog, Rulfo.
