Amit Kumar is a Senior Fellow with the Climate program at World Resources Institute India.

Amit retired from The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 2021. There as Senior Director, Social Transformation, he was responsible for initiatives focusing on energy access, holistic rural development, and community engagement. Earlier, he had also led research activities in the fields of renewable energy and resource efficient process technology applications in TERI.

Amit has been working on the development and diffusion of cleaner and renewable energy resources based technological solutions in India for close to 40 years. His experience ranges from policy and program formulation, through project implementation, to the design and development of renewable energy technologies, as well as manufacturing of solar energy devices. Amit has also coordinated SE4ALL Capacity Building Hub; one of the global hubs of the UN supported Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4All) as well as that of REEEP (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership) - South Asia Secretariat as its Regional Program Advisor. He was Dean (Distance and Short-Term Education), TERI University between 2014 and 2016.

Amit is a Mechanical Engineer with specialization in thermal engineering from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) where he was awarded the University Gold Medal in 1981.

In his free time Amit likes to read, paint, and write – in that order.
