WASHINGTON (November 4, 2020)—As of this morning, the outcome of the 2020 U.S. election is still being determined, with many ballots yet to be counted. The electoral process is ongoing and all ballots must be counted to ensure the integrity of the outcome.

Following is a statement from Dr. Andrew Steer, President & CEO, World Resources Institute:

“At the core of the U.S. political system is the principle of free and fair elections whereby all votes are counted. This year, as many people expected, the vote counting process will take time. This requires patience.

“As a non-partisan, independent, global organization, WRI joins with other voices calling for every vote to be counted to ensure the legitimacy of the 2020 election.

“We have already heard inaccurate statements and seen examples of disinformation being spread. We cannot allow these actions to undermine the integrity of the electoral process and the right of the American people to select the president and other elected officials.

“The U.S. democratic system has endured many tests, but has always seen the peaceful transition of power. This year must be no different. We need to dig into our reservoirs of resilience and patience until the outcome is decided.”
