Sailing Towards Decarbonization: Mobilizing Green Shipping Ambition in 2025
Global emissions from shipping vessels account for approximately 3% of total greenhouse gas emissions each year, making the maritime industry equivalent to the sixth largest greenhouse gas emitting country. In recent years, the Our Ocean Conference (OOC) has been a key annual platform for major ambitious announcements related to maritime decarbonization, including establishing green shipping corridors, innovations in fuel and electrification, greening port infrastructure, and increasing efficiency. The tenth OOC, to be hosted by the Republic of Korea in Busan from April 28-30, 2025, will capitalize on this sustained ambition by featuring a special focus on both green shipping and technological innovations.
In advance of the 2025 OOC, this webinar will bring together key stakeholders from the global shipping ecosystem to discuss innovative measures they are taking to green the industry. Panelists will discuss key opportunities and challenges related to maritime decarbonization, the role of voluntary commitment platforms like the OOC in driving progress, and the role of international, regional, and domestic regulatory frameworks. The webinar, hosted by the World Resources Institute with Ocean Conservancy, will include representatives from diverse perspectives, including government, ports, non-governmental organizations, philanthropy, and the private sector.
