Energy Access Explorer: A Mapping Platform to Connect Data with Sustainable Development Solutions
This workshop launched Energy Access Explorer, a new online, open-source interactive platform that compiles and analyzes data on energy supply and demand, enabling more comprehensive energy planning.
On September 4, World Resources Institute, the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and the Energy Sector GIS Working Group hosted a workshop to present state-of-the-art GIS approaches to energy access planning, and a new digital tool, Energy Access Explorer. This workshop invited electricity planners from the East Africa region, clean energy entrepreneurs and development finance institutions and donors that operate in the energy access and development spaces.
Energy Access Explorer is a new online, open-source, interactive platform that compiles and analyzes several spatial datasets on both energy supply and demand, enabling more comprehensive energy planning. This workshop was the first time that the platform is made publicly available.
Attendance for the September 4 workshop was open to all interested stakeholders, including energy planning institutions, clean energy entrepreneurs, development finance institutions, foundations, researchers and other organizations that are interested in expanding access to clean energy (especially in the health, education and agriculture sectors).
