Active Citizens: Responsive Governments
Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration in Action
At Rio+20, there is a need to assess progress to date in achieving good national environmental governance. You will learn how ordinary citizens from around the world are trying to improve national environmental governance through the use of freedom of information laws, public participation mechanisms and judicial forums to improve environmental decision-making.
The workshop will look at strategies civil society organizations and communities can use in their own work, and the importance of establishing and strengthening the right to information, public participation and access to justice to promote transparency, accountability and inclusion all around the world.
