Earth Day 2024

On this Earth Day, WRI is highlighting our latest research findings related to the state of the world's forests, efforts to increase the sustainability of our food system, and the health of the world's oceans. 

The Forest Pulse draws on the most recent data and analysis to reveal the latest trends in global forest loss and deforestation. While 2023 showed some encouraging developments in some countries, the rate of tropical primary forest loss remained stubbornly consistent with recent years, according to the latest data.

Meat and dairy are major contributors to climate change. Animal agriculture is responsible for more than three-quarters of agricultural land use, 11%-20% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and more than 30% of global methane emissions.

The ocean has long sustained coastal communities that rely on it for their food, livelihoods and wellbeing. But these benefits don’t stop at the shoreline. New research commissioned by the Ocean Panel shows that the health of the ocean is directly linked to the health of humans everywhere.
