Hosted by The Climate Group, Climate Week NYC takes place annually during the UN General Assembly and draws world leaders together with experts on climate change. The event provides a unique platform for policymakers, investors, CEOs, academic institutions and NGOs to showcase climate action successes and discuss challenges ahead.

Champions 12.3 - 2018 Progress Report Release

Leaders from a wide range of sectors gather to discuss the most recent innovations being made to address Sustainable Development Goal 12.3: the reduction of food loss and waste. The progress report being presented will share the creative new strategies, public-private partnerships, technologies, and commitments that have been implemented in 2018 to meet the target goal.

Climate & Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-lived Climate Pollutants

Ministerial Roundtable

By invitation only. Ministers from member countries discuss signing on to the coalition’s Talanoa Statement launched at the Global Climate Action Summit by Norway.  The commitment to lead global actions that can avoid 0.6 degrees Celsius of temperature increase between now and 2050 through actions to mitigate short-lived climate pollutants, or “super pollutants,” has been endorsed by WRI.

The Road to Replenishment: Restoring Confidence in the Green Climate Fund

Public event. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) – the main global mechanism for channelling investments to critical climate action projects in developing countries – is facing a crisis of confidence. A new WRI working paper, Setting the Stage for the GCF’s First Replenishment, explores two sets of issues that are fundamental to the GCF’s success and that need to be addressed simultaneously: reliable funding and board governance. Early Ratification of the Escazú Agreement: Regional Action on Environmental Democracy to fulfill the vision of the 2030 SDG Agenda

Building on the signing of the Escazú Agreement in Costa Rica on March 4, 2018, WRI will host an event to encourage additional countries to sign and ratify the Agreement — a vital international treaty that guarantees protections of the environment and the strengthening of human rights for environmental defenders. The Agreement opens for signatures on the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. Event attendees are asked to register in advance.
