Tristan Grupp is an Agricultural Data Scientist in the Food, Land, and Water (FLW) Program and the Data Lab at WRI. He also collaborates closely with the Land and Carbon Lab. He focuses on developing tools to monitor and reduce deforestation and natural land conversion due to food systems. These tools aim to support commodity traceability, protect vital landscapes, and enhance understanding of trade-offs between nature and food for more sustainable agricultural production. As part of the FLW program, Grupp's work addresses the interconnections of food, land, and water systems.

Prior to joining WRI, Grupp researched land cover change and land systems using geospatial and time series analyses. Some of his research areas include climate change adaptation, monitoring water use in agriculture, tropical forest change and secondary forests, and land use policy and planning.

Grupp holds a master's degree in City and Regional Planning and master's degree in Urban Spatial Analytics from the University of Pennsylvania. He has a bachelor's in International Development from McGill University.
