Maiara Despontin
Geoprocessing Coordinator
Maiara Despontin is a Brazilian agronomist and Geoprocessing Coordinator for Latin America at the World Resources Institute (WRI). She holds a degree in Agronomic Engineering and a Master’s in Agricultural Systems Engineering from the University of São Paulo (ESALQ-USP).
Over the past twelve years, Maiara has worked at the intersection of environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, and geospatial intelligence. Her experience spans initiatives related to producer engagement in the Brazilian Amazon, supply-chain monitoring, certification systems, and landscape-level sustainability strategies across Latin America.
At WRI, she works alongside the engagement team to shape regional environmental data strategies by mapping public environmental datasets across Latin American countries, navigating compliance frameworks and regulatory protocols, and integrating that intelligence into WRI’s platforms. She also coordinates multi-partner pilot projects aimed at translating methodologies into practical implementation on the ground.
