Dr. Francisco Barnés Regueiro is the Executive Director of WRI Mexico, where he leads the promotion of sustainable strategies that integrate economic, social, and environmental development. With a distinguished career spanning over 25 years in environmental leadership, climate change, and sustainable development, he is recognized as a key figure in driving innovative solutions to global challenges.

Dr. Barnés Regueiro holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Policy from Imperial College London. His academic background and cross-sector experience have enabled him to address complex challenges with both strategic and technical perspectives.

In the public sector, Francisco has held pivotal roles that have significantly shaped Mexico’s environmental agenda, including serving as President of the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (INECC), Executive Coordinator of the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe), and Executive Director of the Mario Molina Center.

In the private sector, he was a partner at the strategic consulting firms McKinsey & Company and Bain & Company, where he led practices in energy and natural resources. His expertise spans a wide range of industries, including energy, automotive, chemical, mining, and water management. Additionally, he has worked on critical urban challenges such as air quality and solid waste management.
