The United Nations Environment Program and World Resources Institute will launch a new report on what actions are needed to achieve emissions reductions to limit global temperature rise to 2°C in this century. The event on November 19, 2014 in Washington, D.C. will feature remarks from Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director; Andrew Steer, President and CEO, World Resources Institute; Joseph Alcamo, Chief Scientific Editor and UNFCCC Chief Scientist; and Tim Wirth, Vice Chair, United Nations Foundation, U.S. Senator, Ret.

Since 2010, UNEP has facilitated an annual independent analysis of country pledges and commitments through the development of the annual Emissions Gap reports. The reports assess whether - assuming full implementation - they would be consistent with a least-cost approach to keep global average warming below 2°C, compared to pre-industrial levels.

As nations prepare to gather in Lima, Peru, for the latest round of negotiations in agreeing a new climate treaty, the fifth edition of the Emissions Gap Report lays out a roadmap for the cuts required to limit global warming to 2°C in this century.

The event is open to media and will include a question and answer session.
