COP30 Launch Event for "Jobs and Skills for the New Economy"
As the world moves toward a low-carbon and resilient economy, millions of workers will need new skills and new types of jobs to thrive. Yet current transition strategies still focus largely on infrastructure and technology, while investments in people — through education, reskilling and social protection — have not kept pace. Without a stronger focus on people, the transition risks becoming slower, more costly and less equitable.

In Belém, the Brazilian COP30 Presidency and the Global Initiative on Jobs and Skills for the New Economy will co-host a high-level event to unite governments, businesses and civil society behind an Action Agenda that puts people at the heart of climate and economic transitions.
The event will mark the official launch of the initiative — a new global effort to align and accelerate action on jobs, skills and social equity for the new economy, building on new research showing that the transition can be a powerful engine of job creation and growth. By convening leaders from across society, the event will create a shared understanding of what it takes to make climate action deliver for people — through better jobs, stronger skills systems, and inclusive growth.
