Eliane Nirere is an Energy Research Intern with the WRI Polsky Energy Center. She supports research on electricity demand growth, electrification, and clean energy transitions, with a focus on demand drivers, power-system planning, and pathways for meeting rising electricity demand while advancing clean, affordable, reliable, and secure energy systems. Eliane is a member of the Center’s Global Research and Data Team and is based in Washington, DC.

Eliane is a third-year doctoral student at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on advancing demand estimation and business model development practices to achieve clean and equitable energy transition. Her broader research interests lie in planning and implementing renewable-energy electrification technologies that are better aligned with local needs and more adaptable to different socio-cultural contexts in communities. Eliane holds a master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, specializing in Energy Systems and Machine Learning, from Carnegie Mellon University. She holds bachelor's degree in mechanical and Energy Engineering from University of Rwanda.
