Carmen Valdez Berriozábal
Building Decarbonization Manager, WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities
Carmen is the Building Decarbonization Manager at the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, where she supports governments worldwide in their efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of their building and construction sector from a whole lifecycle perspective. This includes energy efficiency, clean energy, low-carbon materials and materials circularity, low-carbon management during construction and end-of-life stages, as well as enhancing building’s resilience to climate change. She is responsible for the activities of the Zero Emissions and Resilient Buildings (ZERB) Accelerator in Colombia and Kenya.
She has over 10 years of experience coordinating sustainable development projects, focusing on climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable buildings, inclusive housing, circular economy, and plastic pollution prevention. She has held positions in international cooperation organizations, the Mario Molina Center for energy and environmental research, sustainability consulting firms, and real estate development and construction companies. Carmen served as a Citizen Advisor and Member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Environmental and Land Use Planning Attorney's Office (PAOT) of Mexico City.
Carmen is an Architect, graduated with Honors from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). She holds a master's degree in Environmental Systems Engineering from University College London and a master's in Sustainable Design and Construction from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
