The Landscape Policy Accelerator
Indonesia

The Landscape Policy Accelerator is focused on overcoming the barriers to an accountable and deforestation-free Indonesian palm oil supply chain. A lack of incentives, poor regulation, and few traceability systems have stymied efforts to achieve global net-zero targets.
While big palm oil companies in Indonesia have made progress in tracking where their products come from, small-scale farmers are struggling to keep up. Many aren't yet part of the national dashboard, making it difficult to verify where their land is located, which is crucial for meeting new global standards.
To address this challenge, and with the goal of reducing deforestation, Indonesia has introduced regulations to improve sustainability and traceability in the palm oil industry. They focus on gathering accurate data, assessing practices, and certifying both large companies and small farmers. The Accelerator and its partners aim to speed up the adoption of new policies by bringing together government officials and key players in the restoration sector. They are working closely with the Indonesian Government, led by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, to drive innovation and quickly implement these policies.
This effort is part of a larger initiative, the HSBC Climate Solutions Partnership, which is dedicated to scaling up efforts to combat climate change over the next five years.
