Bora Masumbuko is the Country Manager for World Resources Institute (WRI) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she coordinates WRI’s activities and drives the country’s programmatic strategy to support and advance the organization's goals and mission and DRC’s transition toward economic sustainability. To achieve this, she works with government and non-government actors at the intersection between nature conservation, economic development, and resilient societies and communities.

Bora is an environment and biodiversity conservation specialist with over 20 years of experience working on national, regional, and global issues about ecosystem restoration, land use, and policy. Bora has extensive experience developing and leading complex initiatives and programs and working with diverse partners, including governments, civil society, local communities, and the private sector.

Before joining WRI, Bora worked with the International Union for Conservation of Nature for several years in different focus areas, where she led regional and global programs to promote nature-based solutions to advance ecosystem sustainability and resilience to climate change. Her engagement also involved coordinating stakeholder engagements and partnerships, influencing policies, and mobilizing resources. Prior to joining IUCN, Bora held positions in diverse institution types, including a research institute, a Pan-African environmental non-profit organization, and a multilateral organization, to advance biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability in Africa.

Bora holds an MSc in Agricultural Sciences and Biological Engineering from the Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (University of Liege), Belgium, and a BSc in Populations’ and Ecosystems’ Biology from the University of Lille, France.

Bora always tries to find time to connect with nature wherever she is. She enjoys hiking, reading and spending time with family and friends.
