ADVISORY: World Resources Institute’s Stories to Watch 2026
Washington (January 22, 2026) — Join WRI President & CEO Ani Dasgupta on Thursday, January 29 from 9:00–10:30AM ET (3:00pm–4:30PM CET) for Stories to Watch 2026, WRI’s flagship annual global briefing on the moments, trends and decisions set to define the year ahead for people, nature and climate.
Last year marked a widening divide in global climate action: clean energy generation soared and EVs sales broke records, while the United States backpedaled on climate action and global development aid decreased. Sharply contrasting narratives are emerging around the economic transition — between the governments, businesses and communities who view it as essential to security and prosperity, and those who fear it may hinder economic progress.
Against this backdrop, Ani will explore three common concerns at the heart of the debate:
- Growth: How the transition to a clean economy can drive global competitiveness and innovation, and which countries are pulling ahead or falling behind.
- Affordability: How climate impacts and policy choices will shape the price of everyday life — from energy to housing.
- Jobs: How countries and companies can equip workers with the skills needed for a changing global economy.
The briefing will also touch on trade and industry, rising energy demand, and the impact of AI on jobs and skills.
Each story combines insights from WRI experts across the globe with on-the-ground videos showing people and solutions in action — from Nairobi (Kenya) to Mumbai (India), to Porto Alegre (Brasil).
