Senior Geospatial Analyst, Restoration
Tesfay Woldemariam is a Senior Geospatial Analyst in WRI’s Restoration Program. He leads geospatial analysis and remote sensing work supporting Ethiopia’s national restoration efforts, including the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI). His work focuses on landscape prioritization, restoration opportunity mapping, species-site matching, and the design of monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems that support evidence-based restoration planning and decision-making.
Tesfay works closely with government agencies, technical experts, and development partners to translate complex spatial and ecological data into practical solutions for large-scale restoration programs. He also develops geospatial tools, methodologies, and knowledge products that strengthen restoration planning, implementation, and impact assessment across Ethiopia and the broader Africa restoration portfolio.
His expertise includes GIS, remote sensing, restoration opportunity assessment, land suitability modeling, and environmental monitoring. He is proficient in ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, and Google Earth Engine, and supports capacity building for restoration practitioners through technical mentorship and training.
