Christopher Mutungi
Senior Research Associate, Food Loss and Waste, WRI Africa

Christopher Mutungi leads research and portfolio development of the Food Loss and Waste function at WRI Africa. He is the point of contact for all work in WRI Africa relating to Food loss and Waste, ensuring efficient internal and external coordination, cross learning, and strengthening of “reduce” line of work across the WRI network.
Prior to joining WRI, Christopher worked as Associate Scientist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) where he implemented Food Loss and Waste reduction strategies within the Africa RISING (Research in Sustainable Intensification for the Next Generation) program – a consortium of CGIAR and National Research Centres, government outreach institutions and local/international NGOs in East, West and Southern Africa.
Previously, he worked at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) and Egerton University in Kenya as Researcher and Lecturer.
Christopher holds a Doctorate Degree in Food Engineering from Technische Universitaet Dresden (Germany). He has a Master of Science Degree in Food Science and Technology, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in the same field from University of Nairobi (Kenya).
In his spare time, Christopher enjoys intellectual discussions, reading, and Rumba music.
