Beyond the mobilization of $1.3T in climate finance, transparent, inclusive, and accountable governance processes are needed to ensure that it is used as effectively and responsively as possible. Accountability can remain a nebulous concept when the “what, for whom, by when, and how” are not defined. This session will explore and ground climate accountability approaches from different countries while drawing global lessons, showcasing tools developed in context to make climate finance decisions more accessible to communities most in need.

The Green Accountability Platform is supporting civil society in Bangladesh, Brazil, Cameroon, Mexico and Senegal, to strengthen climate finance governance. This work is a model for the World Bank’s new initiative, CIVIC: The Civil Society and Social Innovation Alliance, announced by President Banga. This session will showcase early outcomes and lessons.

This event is part of the Civil Society Policy Forum during the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund's Annual Meetings. It will be held at the World Bank Group's headquarters in room I 2-220.
