Mbeo Ogeya is a Senior Research Associate, Energy, leading clean energy supply and energy transition program. His work focuses on energy systems modeling, particularly Africa’s energy transition and low-carbon development pathways. He brings extensive expertise in energy and climate change modeling as well as qualitative research.

Before joining WRI, Mbeo worked as a research consultant supporting projects on energy transition, energy efficiency, oil and gas in Africa, bioenergy, and capacity building at the Africa Energy Commission (AFREC). He also contributed to various research initiatives at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) - Africa Center, including Energy-Water-Food Nexus modeling in Rwanda, energy balance statistics and scenario modeling for the Union of Comoros, and Green to Scale technologies in Eastern Africa. His work has also explored the Renewable Energy-Climate Nexus in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo. Additionally, he has made significant contributions to mini-grid development across Africa, producing research findings to inform policy makers and developers.

With over 15 years of experience in energy and climate change research, including mitigation, adaptation, project planning, management, and capacity building, Mbeo is currently pursuing a PhD in System of Innovation and Sustainable Development, focusing on the co-evolution of grid and off-grid electricity. He holds a Master of Science in Energy Management and a bachelor’s degree in industrial chemistry from the University of Nairobi.
