Caroline Njiru
Greater Rift Valley Landscape Manager, WRI Africa
Caroline Njiru is the Landscape Manager for the Greater Rift Valley Landscape in Kenya, which is anchored within the Vital Landscapes Pillar, that aims to build the resilience of our natural ecosystems to sustainably provide vital ecosystem services such as food, water, carbon sequestration, and climate regulation. As the Landscape Manager, she manages and coordinates all the restoration activities in the Greater Rift Valley landscape and the landscape restoration delivery team comprising of experts in restoration finance, capacity building, monitoring, policy, hydrology, food and nutrition, communication, and other disciplines relevant to landscape restoration. She serves as the focal point for planning, implementation, and learning across the landscape.
Prior to joining WRI, she worked with different Non-Governmental Organizations across Kenya’s landscapes to restore critical ecosystems, reduce biodiversity loss, improve livelihoods and enhance climate resilience.
She worked as a Programme Coordinator for WWF in the Kenya Rift Lakes Region for 7 years, supporting coordination and management of projects in various thematic areas, which include - Forest Landscape Restoration, Food, Water, Policy & Advocacy, Climate Change and Energy.
Previously, Caroline also worked for the World Vision where she managed an East Africa land restoration initiative for 3 years; working with communities and partners in the Rift Valley to enhance climate resilience through land restoration. Before this, she also worked for ERMIS-Africa and the Green Belt Movement.
Caroline holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Moi University and a master’s degree in project planning and management from the University of Nairobi.
