León, Mexico

“The purpose of the municipality of León is to achieve and reach a balance between the natural, economic and social environment through the conservation of our urban forests, protected natural areas and their biodiversity and through adopting practical strategies toward that end."

Alejandra Gutiérrez Campos, Mayoress of León, Guanajuato, México

Success Story

Some of our success stories are the generation of the inventory of urban trees in avenues and boulevards as well as the inventory of urban trees in the municipality of León, both through the I-Tree tool. The city has expanded its urban biodiversity and plantations using arboreal and shrub native species in urban and rural areas covering over 32,000 native species in the last 3 years, thereby creating a baseline for a sustainable urban forest in the city.
