MEDIA ADVISORY: South Africa to Launch National Climate Data Platform

KATOWICE, POLAND (December 12, 2018)— At COP24, South Africa’s Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) is launching the South Africa Biennial Update Report Explorer, a new platform offering data and visualization on South Africa’s climate response. The tool is a resource for policymakers, businesses, researchers and journalists to visualize and download data showing how South Africa is taking steps to meet its commitments to the Paris Agreement.

At 11:00 am CET on December 13, DEA will host an event where representatives from the South African government will discuss South Africa’s climate change progress, and present a live demo of how the South Africa Biennial Update Report Explorer can be used to answer questions about mitigation efforts, development priorities, emissions and more. The event will take place in the South Africa Pavilion at COP24 in Katowice, Poland.

Developed in collaboration with World Resources Institute, the South Africa Biennial Update Report Explorer is accessible now at http://southafricaclimateexplorer.org.
