Help Us Build a More Sustainable and Prosperous World for All People

The U.S. election was one of the most stunning political events in recent memory. President-elect Trump has followed that up with a series of Cabinet appointments whose positions on climate, energy and environmental protection mark a clear break from the past. It is abundantly clear we need deep resolve to ensure that the momentum toward a sustainable, low-carbon future continues.

We cannot not lose sight that the transition to a modern, low-carbon economy that works for everyone is underway and already benefiting people in the United States and around the world. This is a movement far bigger than any one person or nation.

Please consider a contribution to WRI to help us fight for policies and solutions that are good for people, the planet and the economy.

WRI is uniquely equipped – thanks to our global networks, rigorous analysis, trusted reputation, convening power and long-term partnerships – for the fight. With your support, WRI will double down on our work to scale-up clean energy, help bring sustainable investing into the mainstream, amplify the voices of Democratic and Republican mayors and businesses who see the economic benefits of investing in low-carbon, resilient and efficient infrastructure systems.

WRI’s staff will vigorously defend the landmark Paris Agreement on climate change and work to ensure the United States meets its emissions commitments. Encouragingly, 196 countries reaffirmed their commitment to international climate action in Marrakech last month.

We have staff on the ground in China, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, the EU and Africa who will continue to provide critical analysis, tools and ideas to support global leaders in moving toward a low-carbon future. We are, for example, working with partners to restore nearly 120 million hectares of deforested and degraded land in Africa and Latin America – an area the size of South Africa. This will sequester billions of tons of greenhouse gases, generate millions of rural jobs, conserve biodiversity and renew water and food supplies.

We know well what is at stake. Our experts will conduct research, mobilize partners and engage in outreach to sustain the gains we’ve made.

Can we count on you? As you think about your year-end giving, please consider a contribution to WRI. Together, we can continue to build a more sustainable and prosperous world for all people.

With warm regards and many thanks,

Andrew Steer
